583 Park Avenue is proud to welcome Executive Chef Arvin Dhansew to our team. Chef Arvin’s impressive resume includes Le Parker Meridien, Hotel Plaza Athenee and the Loews Regency. Most recently, he brought his fine dining approach into the catering world, serving as the head chef of Relish Caterers. One of the top chefs in New York City, he now joins us at The Rose Group, managers of 583 Park Avenue and Guastavino’s.
Chef Arvin’s passion for food emerged upon his arrival in the United States from his native country of Guyana. “Back home, everyone’s parents pushed them to become doctors or engineers. Working in hospitality wasn’t presented as a viable career option. When I first came to the U.S. I worked as a dishwasher, and from that first experience in a professional kitchen I knew I wanted to work in the culinary industry.”
His career as a chef began in that same kitchen. “First, the chef let me make salads. After that, I was in charge of fruit plates. It all grew from there.” Building off his excitement, Chef Arvin applied to the Culinary Institute of America, but was initially turned away. “I knew what I wanted to do, but I didn’t have the experience. So, I went to work.” Chef Arvin spent the next two years in a variety of kitchen positions gaining the knowledge he needed to earn his spot at the CIA.
Chef Arvin has excelled since earning his degree. He is driven by his desire to consistently exceed guest expectations and bring them joy through food. Each of Chef Arvin’s customized menus is created solely with the season’s freshest and highest quality ingredients. “Every season has such different, wonderful flavors to offer, though I must admit that spring and fall are my favorites. I love to cook in the springtime—there are so many fresh, young ingredients available. I also really enjoy the flavors of fall and cooking with both root vegetables and unique spices.”
